And-Ones: Team USA, Monroe, Jerebko, Cuban, Beal

USA Basketball has sent out approximately 60 invitations to players who have expressed interest in being part of the Olympic player pool, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski tweets. Team USA could be without players advancing to the NBA Finals, based on the timing of July Olympics in Tokyo, Wojnarowski notes. Among the players invited are some of the league’s young stars, including Duncan Robinson, Zion Williamson, Trae Young and Ja Morant, Tim Reynolds of The Associated Press tweets.

We have more from around the basketball world:

  • Former NBA big men Greg Monroe and Jonas Jerebko had their contracts terminated by BC Khimki Moscow, the team tweets. Monroe played in nine Euroleague games with averages of 10.3 PPG and 6 RPG. Jerebko was averaging 11.5 PPG and 5.5 RPG. The team cited “personal circumstances of (the) players” as the reason for the termination.
  • Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said he is in talks with the NBA to organize some preseason games in Europe against Real Madrid or in Slovenia, according to Sportando. Cuban would like to give European fans a chance to watch Luka Doncic in action.
  • The Wizards have endured a number of postponement due to COVID-19 protocols and Bradley Beal wouldn’t mind if the league considered another bubble or regional sites as the season progresses, according to NBC Sports Washington’s Chase Hughes. Beal didn’t play in the summer restart in Orlando. “I probably wouldn’t be totally against it as long as we had the same success that we did the first go-around,” he said. “I wasn’t part of the bubble in the first go-around, so I don’t necessarily know how all that worked down there every day. But I know going through it every day here, it’s a lot. We test twice a day at least for the last week. That’s very overwhelming at times.”

    Who says no?

Ben Simmons, 2021 First and a second for Beal

Wizards can trade away WB or Simmons this summer
Wizards can reduce 8 wins and have better draft pick

    • Wizards say no. Simmons is overrated and Beal has found another level. 76ers first rounder is not likely to be a good one, especially if they improved by acquiring Beal. Would need two firsts plus Simmons–maybe more.

Beal only has one more guaranteed year after this on his contract and is older. Simmons for Beal is fairly close but I think the Wiz can do better. You are correct though that Philly’s draft picks aren’t worth much of anything.

Team USA without playoff players would be interesting. Yes they would still be heavy favourites but I think it would make for a more entertaining team.

    Possible players:

    1. Curry. Fox. Russell. Murray
    2. Beal. Oladipo, LaVine. Herro
    3. Butler. Ingram. Oubre. Barnes
    4. Green. Williamson. Aldridge. Griffin
    5. Adebayo. Wood. Wiseman. Cousins

Oh you poor thing, still delusional huh?

GSW beat both the Clips and Lakers last week, catch up, son – non playoff teams dont do that.

Isn’t that the same team that got blown out by the Knicks… like the worst team in the league for the past 20+ years.

I just made a random USA team made up of player from teams outside the top 8 teams in each conference. GSW isn’t in the top 8 not my opinion it’s a fact. Yes I know the top 10 teams this year get a play in tournament and whatever but it’s literally impossible to guess where teams will finish so I just make a current round about teams. Don’t like it don’t care really

Wow the worst huh…… this from the team invented
      The Process — Tanking —
Las 20 yrs Sixers have same amount of rings as Knicks.

      • Simmons>Russ

Knicks have made the playoff 5 times in the last 20 years, we have done it 11 times in the last 20.
2019 clutch sports article, The Knicks are just 672-952 over the last 20 seasons. The worst in the league.

      • The Howler

Left out a few teams that also didn’t win a ring but were trying different “processes” to win.

As of right now, you’d have the following candidates, if you excluded playoff teams:

    PG: Curry, Fox, Wall, Russell
    SG: Beal, LaVine, SGA, Herro
    SF: Butler, Ingram, Hayward
    PF: Zion, Bagley III, J.Grant
    C: Towns, Adebayo, Wood

I think that would be alot more realistic, if the best players accepted their invitations. They’d also be heavily favorited to win, and that team should win the Gold easily

Normally I am sensitive to this stuff, but getting tested for covid twice a day is overwhelming? It takes 10 seconds. Maybe there’s more to it, but if you can’t handle being tested twice a day how are you going to handle being locked away on a campus for months.

Guess I’d be annoyed too if everyone on my team was injured and we sucked.
