Pacific Notes: Clippers, Lakers, Kings, Zubac

Through lineup additions and subtractions, as well as new offensive sets implemented by their new coach, the Clippers are feeling more confident in their chemistry this season than they did during their disappointing 2019/20 run, according to Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN.

“I feel like our energy is way better this season,” forward Marcus Morris said. “It’s a new season; it’s a new team.”

The Clippers have won four straight games, even with key rotational players missing. New additions Serge Ibaka and Luke Kennard have managed to fit in nicely.

“Hopefully, you guys see it, just how well we are meshing,” star forward Paul George said. “We are going to continue to build off of that; we like where we are at and like where we are heading, and we want to see this thing play all the way through.”

There’s more out of the Pacific Division:

  • Adjusting to their not-insignificant roster turnover has yet to be an issue for the Lakers, says Rob Mahoney of The Ringer. The team has added four core new rotation players: new starters Dennis Schröder and Marc Gasol, plus key new bench additions Wesley Matthews and Montrezl Harrell.
  • The slumping Kings are 5-10 despite an encouraging 3-1 season start, and James Ham of NBC Sports Bay Area opines that it may be time to infuse the starting lineup with new blood. The club is on a four-game losing streak, and has lost nine of its last 11 contests. “It sucks losing. You can never accept it, well, I can never accept it,” big man Marvin Bagley III said after a lopsided 115-96 loss to the Clippers on Wednesday.
  • Clippers center Ivica Zubac, who started for the club last year, has looked more comfortable in his new role off the bench this season, according to Andrew Greif of the Los Angeles Times. The newly-signed veteran Ibaka has supplanted Zubac as the starter.

Zubacs underline statline is really good…I’m guessing his lack of an outside shot hurts him starting?

Could be. Also seems like Clippers are still figuring things out in terms of lineups and identity. The roles could be switched a month from now.

How is the energy different when you still lost to Steph and the Warriors the same way you did from 2014-2019?

Sacto has been 0-4 without Bjelica, who is not starting this year for the first time. This is their problem… besides him, Bagley & Hield all with PERs in the 10-14 range. From the link:

“Walton has run the same starting five out on the court each night… they can’t figure out how to make in-game adjustments during the losing streak… something is missing… the overall product looks like five individuals taking turns scoring and then one mistake after another on the defensive end. “

Couldn’t agree more..what the hell happen to Bjelica anyway? He’s definitely not injured. He covered for glass made Bagley pretty well last season..was that not enough for Fluke Walton?

Sorry but Bagley is the future. Monte search to 90% a new team for belly. And belly has can’t help the Kings in offense or defense in this season

        • dubtastic

I was more so advocating to at least having a few minutes of PT..even Metu has more PT than Belly the past couple of games..but I get your point, I hope they can find a trade suitor for Belly cuz he’s just rotting on the bench..

        • dubtastic

Also, if Bags gets hurt again, I don’t think GRIII would be an ideal #4 starter but than again he would put up better defense than Belly

    • kingsforever 2

Belly has good shooting last year from three and he attacks intelligent the basket but in this year was belly terrible. And a great problem is that’s belly can’t defend. And none shooting with none defense is a bad connection

Pretty much. They have a decent offence so they don’t need to have the best defence in the league. Last season I think they were around 20th in the league on defensive efficiency. That would make them a pretty average team in the league. Hopefully they can get back to that. They need to sort this out.

Wolves need to trade Edwards and Kings need to trade Bagley III

GMs are not able to make good trades

I just remember plenty people counting out the Clippers. This season is unlike any other. We really need to get thru 40 gms. I see a competitive playoffs this yr, East n West.

Exactly I’d give two rings to this year’s Champ

It would be scary if Celtics add a TPE player

Still wondering if Sacramento will ever use Robert Woodard at the 4/3 spots
