Mavs Optimistic About Signing DeMarcus Cousins

The Mavericks believe they have a strong chance of signing DeMarcus Cousins in free agency, according to Michael Scotto of The Athletic. Cousins, coming off a season-ending Achilles tendon injury, will be an unrestricted free agent next month. While the Mavericks’ interest in Cousins has previously been reported, Scotto’s story suggests the Mavericks are ready to make him a hefty offer to lure him away from the Pelicans. If the Mavs pass on Texas big man Mohamed Bamba with the No. 5 pick, that would reinforce the notion they’ll go all in to secure the services of either Cousins or the Rockets’ restricted free agent center, Clint Capela.

Scotto also has several other notable items to pass along:

  • The Sixers discussed the possibility of packaging the No. 10 and 26 picks, along with last year’s top pick Markelle Fultz, to move into the top five of the draft with Michael Porter Jr. as their target. However, lingering concerns over Porter’s back have cooled their interest in making that move.
  • Tobias Harris expiring contract is part of the package the Clippers are dangling to move up in the lottery. They have back-to-back picks at Nos. 12 and 13.
  • The Hawks are trying to make a deal with the Clippers or Nuggets (No. 14) in order to nab Miami (Fla.) guard Lonnie Walker IV. They are looking to package their picks at Nos. 19 and 30.
  • The Nets are dangling point guard Spencer Dinwiddie and the No. 29 pick in order to move into the middle of the first round.
  • The Rockets have received calls on guard Eric Gordon and could move him in order to get a mid-first-rounder.

Mavs should sign Cousins for the max and draft Porter Jr.. Go out and get some bench help.

DSJ / Porter Jr. / Cousins – are the future for Dallas!

Carlisle won’t coach Boogie. He doesn’t suffer fools. They take Mamba and this is a non-issue.

  3. I give no fox

Mavs just love giving max contracts to players coming off Achilles injuries. Smh

Go to the Mavs and help push Dirk’s wheelchair around next season.

Would LA be willing to deal with Charlotte to move up 2 spots I wonder

It reads like Alexander will not last until 12, so West chases him up the board. But Tobias H is a good player!

Harris, Dinwiddie, Eric Gordon… get reasonable GMs… keep them

Prospects are moving up, moving down, it is crazy.

Why sign this malcontent and eventual criminal?
The Mavs are better than that!

Eventual criminal? Because of some of his antics on the court that leads to trouble with the law? Not following that logic. Not to mention if boogie comes back healthy the mavs actually couldn’t do better than that. He’s a top 3 center when on the court.

Wow….eventual criminal? Nice that you equate getting tech fouls with violent acts on citizens. Grow up. I know ppl that have dealt with Cousins off the court and they say he’s a nice humorous guy

DeMarcus Cousins is one of the more active members of multiple communities in terms of charitable contributions, as well as giving up his own time to participate in programs like that. What have you done for society?

The Sixers would be dumb to give up two first-rounders AND Fultz just to move up. That sounds like an idea from Colangelo’s Twitter account.

    • ishkabibble

I would have zero interest in acquiring Fultz until I knew a helluva lot more about what happened to him last season. It was a lot more than just physical; that’s for certain. If I’m a GM he has no trade value right now.

I think they have great odds of landing him, same odds as when they landed DeAndre Jordan…

A healthy DMC is an absolute monster of a player, the likes of him, Dallas has unfortunately never seen (Dirk apart), I read above that Carlisle doesn’t suffer fools, well we all suffer him, don’t we? Seriously he is only a HC, he doesn’t win championships, that is what the players do, great players like DMC, make no mistake a HC is the smallest part of a winning team, they can make a team worst but they cannot improve it much, the players are the ones on the court getting the buckets… or not, so I always take a player above any HC, by the way don’t know why all go on about DMC, as far as I know 2 years in NOLA & no monkey business very well behaved, as I said been in loosing teams & chaotic situations frustrates players & behave worst, give them a better situation they will always behave better, that a fact. Also DMC is one of the greatest charity/community champions in the league, so Ernesto the question is are you the criminal or what?
