The Sixers defeated the Knicks on Thursday without center Joel Embiid, then got promising news on his injured left shoulder.
Tests shows no significant structural damage, as he’s been diagnosed with a sprain, Shams Charania of The Athletic tweets. Embiid’s progress will be symptom-based and he’ll be re-evaluated in approximately one week, Charania adds.
Embiid suffered the injury against Cleveland on Wednesday. He collided with Cleveland big man Ante Zizic late in the first quarter. Embiid remained in the game to shoot two free throws, then was taken out at the next stoppage.
The Sixers scheduled an MRI to determine the extent of the damage.
Philadelphia is down its two best players. Ben Simmons is out for at least the next two weeks because of a nerve impingement in his lower back.
Without Embiid, the Sixers relied more on Al Horford (15 points, nine assists, seven rebounds) and Tobias Harris (34 points, seven assists, seven rebounds) against New York. Kyle O’Quinn also got more playing time and grabbed 10 rebounds in 14 minutes.

He’s not a shooter I guess, but he does everything else. Seems like OQuinn should get more consideration. Even 74% on FTs. Maybe he should take himself more seriously.
Hopefully with the injuries Philly drops to the #6, that would give them a very easy walkover in the first round (Boston) & a good chance against Toronto, so they could very well still make it to the ECF.

Good news for Embiid. He’s a beast in the playoffs. Besides, a bum shoulder is a lot lower trade value.

Embiid is perfectly content as long as he is healthy enough to access social media.
This offseason I hope they correct a few things. Embiid is the most dominant big man in the league since Shaq. He isn’t as consistent though.
If Brand were smart, and I think he is, he would be looking at assembling the correct pieces around Embiid. Simmons and Embiid can work, but they need 2 shooters on the court at ALL times. Triangle offense can be ran thru both Embiid and Simmons. It’s about spacing and double teams. Simmons and Embiid both recieve double teams.
They need to acquire a 2 guard and a 3 or 4 that shoot in the 38% or better range that are plus defenders. That’s the criteria, no small task but that’s the need.
They have 46.5M for matching purposes. Horford, Richardson, Scott, and Smith. Richardson while I like him, is not a 3pt shooter and his 10.8M is needed to get the correct pieces to round out this team.
This season to me is actually good in the long term. Shake, Thybulle, Smith, and Korkmaz will get more PT and you should be able to see what you have from a bench perspective. It will force Browns hand bc he refuses to play guys. He dropped Bolden which was dumb, O’Quinn should have been dropped.
Idk man peak Dwight Howard at least got the magic to the finals. Embiid just doesn’t scare me when he’s playing my team. He can lay an egg at anytime. Actually I saw him put up a literal 0 against my team earlier this year.
Also who is doubling Simmons? He can’t shoot, at most just make sure there’s a guy waiting to help in the paint when he inevitably drives
