Marquese Chriss Out For Season With Broken Leg

DECEMBER 31: Chriss underwent a successful surgery today to address his broken right fibula, the Warriors announced in a press release (Twitter link).

DECEMBER 27: Warriors center Marquese Chriss will miss the rest of the season after breaking his right fibula, tweets Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The Warriors announced in a press release (Twitter link) that the official diagnosis for Chriss, whose injury occurred during a practice in Chicago, is a right syndesmosis ankle injury with a fibular fracture. The reserve big man will have surgery to address the injury this week.

Chriss played in the team’s first two games, averaging 6.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in 13.5 minutes. He was a part-time starter last year, but rookie James Wiseman has taken over as Golden State’s starting center.

The 23-year-old will receive his full salary of $1,824,003 and will be a free agent after the end of this season.

Chriss is in his second season with the Warriors after appearing in 59 games last year. A lottery pick in 2016, he was able to revive his career with Golden State after brief stays with the Rockets and Cavaliers during the 2018/19 season.

Don’t think they should. If they use this as another lost year think about 2021-22. You could have Curry, Thompson (hoping and praying he can still play near his old level), Green, Wiseman, their own high pick and the Wolves high pick in a deep draft.

Then add in support guys like Oubre and Pascal. That is potentially a playoff team built for now and potentially in the future.

I just don’t think there’s a championship left in that core. I’m extremely high on wiseman and think we should try to get younger and flexible around him. Send curry where he can compete (Miami for Tyler herro and nunn and picks, Denver mpj and picks) or home to Charlotte. Get a young controllable role player for draymond and maybe hold onto klay id his market is underwhelming see if he can increase his market value. Get some picks down the road and bottom out and use our high pick and Minnesota’s lottery pick to get back into a quick rebuild

If this core takes a Spurs approach and takes lower than market contracts in attempt to compete we might have a chance but curry contract up in 2022 and if we have to pay him 30-40 million a year we ain’t going to be able to build the right type of team. Better to do it early than late

Marquese Chriss contract $1.8 million is fully guaranteed in November

John Collins and Lonzo Ball should have signed extension for less money recently

Cousins have lost $250 million due to injury

  2. harden (mvp),wall, and wood

Most of those here have such a low opinion of me as to expect a comment making fun of Marquese Chriss and his unfortunate injury, I’m sorry but that’s not happening. I watched him play for the Rockets and he did not impress, but he has looked way better in Golden State than he did in Houston or in Phoenix. I do sincerely feel bad for him and wish a full recovery by next season.

We don’t think you are a bad person just that you are a mega homer for the Rockets

Yeah seems like Marty gets offended about anything negative about the warriors. This isn’t a specific team website, it’s a basketball website where people are free to criticize and promote any basketball team whether we agree with them or not

        • Marty McRae

That is fine, but coming in here and spouting lies because you are merely butthurt your team hasn’t won a ring because of the Warriors, is not.

  3. Its like the team is cursed. Lose your back up center after only 2 games. I guess its Smiley the rest of the year.

    • Marty McRae

Wiseman, Draymond, Looney, Smiley is the C depth chart now. Chriss arguably wasn’t a C either, he’s technically a PF. Hopefully GSW get another TE and use both.

Looks like Wiseman is getting 30+ mins a game this year, they might actually make the playoffs now. Chriss is great and much needed depth, but what if Wiseman is 19 and totally healthy and ready to go as hard as possible everyday for the next 3 years, let alone just this one? Sounds possible, the guy has flashed nothing but elite skills and has that killer instinct on the court already. You thought Zion was special and a hoops freak? Lol You aint seen nothing yet.

      • Another year leading the league with injuries. 145 games so far will be missed this season and counting.

        • Marty McRae

KD, Klay, Steph, Klay, Chriss all having season enders in such a short amount of time. Worst luck in the league by far.

  4. hiflew

If they get a disabled player exception for Chriss as well, can they combine it with the one they have for Klay to get a (slightly) more expensive player?

      • There is no point in a DPE since it is only worth half of Chriss’s salary which is less than a minimum salary.

  5. hoops specialist

bruhh. now chriss is gone which makes da warriors even more undersized. now wuts left is wisemen and looney at da 5. green is still out and smagulic who knows when he will return. hes more a shooter than a big who could grab rebounds and block shots. paschall is only 6’6 and cant play much defense. so pretty much they might as well get destroyed in da paint by da bulls.

      • x%sure

Why bother with the e in enjoyed?
I think the word ‘the’ in front of a proper noun should just be a small ‘t’ in front of the capital letter, i.e., tWarriors.
Also, apostrophe pairs are more elegant than quote-mark pairs for highlighting short words, i.e., ‘t’.
        Probably not what you meant.

Centers still available the Warriors could Sign:

    Veterans:
    – John Henson
    – Taj Gibson
    – Dewayne Dedmon
    – Willie Reed
    – Kyle O’Quinn
    – Ekpe Udoh
    – Tyler Zeller
    – Hasheem Thabeet

    Developmental young prospects:
    – Justin Patton
    – Deyonta Davis
    – Dakari Johnson
    – Brandon McCoy
    – AJ Hammons

    • hoops specialist

o’quinn, udoh, dedmon, and henson are decent shot blockers and dedmon is a relatively great 3 and D center. quite an intriguing list u got there. i feel like udoh and dedmon may be a good choice for the warriors cuz they could use a little more three point shooting and rim protecting. u forgot labrissiere good midrange shooter and shot blocker.

    • phillyballers

Dedmon is in the street bc his shooting fell off a cliff. But I’m still shocked he’s available. Only one that might fit their roster. Faried is still out there too… small ball 5.

    • Marty McRae

JaVale McGee is available under Klay’s DPE – he’s better than a lot of those guys, and feasibly they could acquire both.

    • stevep-4

I thought Dedmon is injured. He would fit, as would Henson or Gibson within their style of play. Most of the others probably not worth even the minimum at this point.

  7. hoops specialist

da warriors r literally gonna be worse than last year tbh cuz they have no shooters and no rim protectors and wisemen is excellent on offense but idk bout defense. they have a bunch of wings but they’re hardly doing anything. recently they had a chance to grab lin but too bad they had troubles at finding a roster spot avaliable for him and plus they went over da deadline for da clearance which has yet to come lmao. and then signed an undrafted rookie instead but eventually cut him. so now i think da only way for them to crack at least da playoffs is getting a 5 and a shooter if possible via trade

    • Marty McRae

Wrong, they have a much more higher floor than last year, where they were hard capped and forced to field a g-league team for a lot of games.

They are going to be fine. Oubre isn’t going to shoot 0% from 3. Steph isn’t going to shoot 22% from 3. Calm down, its 2 games and Draymond comes back now to fix the spacing problems.

      • hoops specialist

oubre has only scored like 9 points over the two games and rebounds more than that. he was fine in da preseason but he almost looks like tony snell when he was struggling with his three point shooting. da problem is oubre has trouble spacing the floor in order to create shots for himself. well yes green can fix their offensive woes.

  8. Sillivan

I am not sure if it works

Trade Chriss, future 2nd and 2 millions cash to Thunder for a future Protected Second

  9. KnickerbockerAl

Wow this gotta be a curse, no. They didn’t say when he broke it. Injuries are part of the game. But in NBA where you play only 12 players. It hurts even more. He’s only 23 and has played well since coming to Warriors. He looks bigger this yr to me. He’s also filled out looks thicker. Too bad, get healthy come back stronger. Yes Warriors have to sign a center. I would look at Dedmon or Zeller.

  10. phillyballers

Good thing they didn’t use the DPE on Bjelica to take away minutes from Chriss………… :-|

        • Marty McRae

Bjelica is still available under the $9.7? Klay DPE.Not sure if the Kings would get rid of him though.

Chriss makes less money than Klay, so his DPE would be less than $2M, but there are plenty of options there.

          • phillyballers

No someone gave ish for saying use the DPE on Bjelica on a previous post

            • Marty McRae

He’s pretty unavailable I think. Kings aren’t a team that’s going to go out of their way to help the Warriors improve, you know?

  11. Marty McRae

JaVale McGee, who is available under Klays DPE, has to be on his way now.

  12. Warriors won’t spend any more luxury tax on more player exceptions. Already an expensive roster with no fans bringing in ticket revenue.

It’s time to tank. Play all the kids. And tank hard. Then they may have two top ten picks next year.

The dynasty is over. Time to reboot.

    • Sillivan

      Don’t get me wrong
      Warriors are still 6-8 seed
Warriors can win more games than Suns Pelicans and Mavs
      KP is injury prone

Suns are overrated because teams can stop their big 3

I’d trade Wolves pick and Oubre to upgrade

  13. They need to open a roster spot to bring someone in. They might as well waive Chriss, who gets paid anyway, and is a FA at the end of the season. Not much point in keeping him on the roster and tying up a spot.
