NBA Postpones Wednesday’s Celtics/Magic Game

A third consecutive Celtics game will be postponed, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, who reports (via Twitter) that Wednesday’s contest between the C’s and the Magic won’t be played as scheduled.

The NBA issued a press release confirming the postponement, noting within its announcement that Boston doesn’t have the league-required minimum of eight players available.

As Tim Bontemps of ESPN observes (via Twitter), the Celtics’ most recent injury report, released on Sunday, included seven players (Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Grant Williams, Tristan Thompson, Robert Williams, Javonte Green, and Semi Ojeleye) out due to health and safety protocols and two more (Kemba Walker and Romeo Langford) sidelined due to injuries. That would leave eight players available, so it seems likely that at least one more player has been ruled out since then.

The Celtics and Magic had been scheduled to play a pair of games in Boston this week. The second of those two contests, set to be played on Friday, remains up in the air for the time being. According to Wojnarowski (via Twitter), the Magic won’t be traveling to Boston today. However, they could do so later in the week.

I would think that if the logic was to reduce travel by scheduling consecutive games versus the same opponent, then postponing one game should result in postponing the second. Otherwise, it seems like you’re defeating the purpose.

At first, I was like…”What a drag, Tatum is going to miss a ton of games” At the rate, this is going he might not miss any.

Why don’t they just let them add additional 10 day guys? Its been almost a week. Could’ve signed three guys and they could’ve already gotten tested and cleared.

Yogi Ferrell just signed a 10-Day contract. They have the stupid hardship rules where guys have to miss a certain number of games but they need to change that for this season or this will keep happening.

I know. I just figured they would have some kind of plan in place. They’re doing as bad as MLB did over the summer.

They need to switch to 3 vs 3 for rest of the season…thatd be chill

Itd be a way different game…but kind of the same. With reduced rosters this idea could save the league tbh. What score would you play to? Would penalties count? Could be dope.

Imagine you play best of 3 each night. And then sometimes there are bonus rules like “dunx only” or “3 point only”. Anyone else have goosebumps thinking about the potential?

Could be epic if the fans picked the rosters for game 1, then 2 was players choice, then 3 was coach’s choice because at that point it would all be on the line

Maybe like if a player makes 3 shots in a row everyone on team Red (you gotta text in) gets free Dominos. Tell me you dont want free Dominos…

      • Maybe they could also mix in some baseball rules to the game, and have fans do tik tok renditions of their favorite plays of the night to win more free swag from sponsors, and then compete for the chance to participate in a bonus round where they can control robot versions of their favorite players with an xbox controller from the comfort of their couch. Winner gets to have a starring role in the skin flick of their choosing.
