JULY 11: The Sixers continue to finalize their contract agreements from the first week of free agency, announcing today in a press release that they’ve officially signed O’Quinn.
JULY 1: Veteran big man Kyle O’Quinn will sign a one-year contract with the Sixers, Kyle Neubeck of The Philly Voice tweets.
O’Quinn will receive the veteran’s minimum and provide depth behind Joel Embiid and Al Horford, who has committed to the Sixers in free agency.
O’Quinn will be joining his fourth team during his NBA career. He played three seasons for the Magic and another three for the Knicks. Last season, he played a backup role for the Pacers, appearing in 45 games and averaging 3.5 PPG and 2.6 RPG in 8.2 MPG.
In a separate transaction, the team has renounced the rights to 2017 first-round pick Anzejs Pasecniks, Sam Amick of The Athletic tweets. The 23-year-old center was a draft-and-stash prospect. Pasecniks wants to play in the NBA next season and the Sixers did not want to add him to the roster due to salary-cap issues, Amick adds in another tweet. Pasecniks’ cap hold was $2.1MM.

Worst move of free agency. How does anyone take this schmuck over Boban?!
what a waste. just a body to beat on in practice. Doesnt help the team. Better off bringing the kid over and figure out the money later
O Quinn was a quiet 20 minutes a night stud with the Knicks. Plays hard and grabs boards. Board man gets paid
And his blocks per 36 that year were 6th among all players. Embid was 14th.
I also thought O’Quinn was a solid passer.
Pretty sure they had to renounce Boban to sign Horford, dont think they could’ve fit the salary in while keeping his bird rights.O’Quinn is also signing for the minimum,Bobans definitely beating that.If they bring him back,it’ll likely have to be with the exception,or a part of it.
I don’t think Boban wanted to sign for the minimum
So the Sixers can’t even get a distant second for a former first round pick who is still just 23 and have to waive him?
The dude is good too. Big man with great range and touch. I know the Nets were going to draft him until Jarrett Allen fell into their hands. I’m hoping they sign him now. Let him marinate in Long Island.
People need to pay attention. O’Quinn for the minimum is a great signing. His per min numbers and metrics (offense and defense) were top 15 in the league for C’s just a couple of years ago. Boban was renounced and is unlikely to take minimum, and if he does, he does.
He averages 5.5p-4.5r-1.0b per in 14.5 minutes a game…..they would be acceptable numbers for a backup center.
Soooo… per 36′, that’s 15pts, 11.5rebs, 5.4assists, 2.4blocks, 51%fg, 81%ft. Starter numbers.
Anyway, Coach Him & Dorfmac, oof. Strange start to the section.
They got 12 centers on this roster and your argument is stupid. If i hit a 3pt shot and only play 30 seconds each game you going to tell me my game Translate to 72 pts if im out there all game. The guy blows and he will be Amir Johnson all over again. will see 6 minutes a night if hes lucky.
Yes apparently CH doesn’t keep up with events because Boban is gone and Amir and Monroe are not in their plans. There is Embiid and 4/5 Horford besides OQuinn.
Amir is a better rebounder
Not per 36′: OQuinn 11.5 career, Amir 9.2. Amir got more minutes so has more rebounds. But he’s done now probably.
Isn’t that what they are signing him for? 2nd unit?
Coach Him makes no sense, made no rational point and does not understand statistics.
OQuinn has always had much better numbers than Amir. He is a great acquisition as a backup.
How much would Pasecniks’ salary be exactly if he did come over? He would still be paid a rookie scale contract yes?
Yes, with the Sixers. Once renounced, he’s a UFA.
Yes, would’ve been $2,105,520 (same as this year’s No. 25 pick).
Nice job getting all those late first round picks that ended up being completely trash. Lol.
1 East but thy did blow some picks. The Celtics only nailed 3. Philly hit 2. But 1 got them Butler who they hit assets for. Brand has been a good GM so far.
